This course introduces students to mathematical tools used in modern economics and give students experience applying these tools to microeconomic issues.Emphasizes applications to microeconomic theory. Recommended for students considering graduate programs in economics.
Topics we will cover include:
- Linear algebra
- Multivariate calculus
- Unconstrained optimization & application to theory of the firm
- Comparative statics & envelope theorem for unconstrained optimization problems
- Constrained optimization & application to consumer theory
- Comparative statics & envelope theorem for constrained optimization problems
